About Legacy Patterns: Audrey Wright Having been introduced to fabric and sewing at a young age had a profound impact on my life. My mom taught me to sew, crochet and knit at the age of 7. I did not realize what an impact fabric and fibers would have in my life at the time. She passed away when I was 8 years old and working with fabric has given me a lifelong connection with her. Fortunately, I come from a long line of strong independent women. I was also lucky enough to spend many summers and weekends with my grandmother who was an artist and encouraged me to continue working and creating with fabric. I sewed many of my clothes growing up and started quilting in the 1970's. I am a self-taught quilter and took my first quilting class after moving back to Kansas.
I owned a quilt shop, spent time as a fabric representative and was a pattern Distributor for over 200 pattern designer's. Designing my own line of patterns for 7 years has been an amazing creative journey. Legacy Patterns is named for the generations of entrepreneurial women in my family and I am proud to say that the legacy continues with my daughter. I am fortunate to have been married for 36 years to my husband, we live on the edge of the Flint Hills on a grass air-strip, and enjoy laughing with our grandchildren.
I draw my inspiration from many sources past and present. One of the things I enjoy most is working with color. I collect old quilts and fabrics and am drawn to both traditional and contemporary elements. I love anything made of wood, clay and metal. Objects made from these resources stand the test of time as well as celebrate the world we live in today.
